In Korea, expressing respect and taking interest in your team can make a huge difference in your career. Here are 20 essential phrases to help you foster positive relationships at work.

Part 1. Greetings & Showing Respect

Meaning: "The weather is great today. Have a nice day!


  • "오늘 날씨가 참 좋네요. 좋은 하루 보내세요!" [O-neul nal-ssi-ga cham jo-ne-yo. Jo-eun ha-ru bo-nae-se-yo!]

    • Meaning: "The weather is great today. Have a nice day!" / 뜻: 오늘 날씨가 참 좋네요. 좋은 하루 보내세요!

  • "도와주셔서 정말 감사합니다. 큰 도움이 됐어요." [Do-wa-ju-syeo-seo jeong-mal gam-sa-ham-ni-da. Keun do-um-i dwaet-seo-yo.]

    • Meaning: "Thank you for your help. It was a huge help." / 뜻: 도와주셔서 정말 감사합니다. 큰 도움이 됐어요.

  • "선배님, 이건 어떻게 하는지 알려주실 수 있나요?" [Seon-bae-nim, i-geon eo-tteo-ke ha-neun-ji al-ryeo-ju-sil su it-na-yo?]

    • Meaning: "Senior, could you show me how to do this?" / 뜻: 선배님, 이건 어떻게 하는지 알려주실 수 있나요?

  • "항상 열심히 가르쳐 주셔서 감사합니다." [Hang-sang yeol-sim-hi ga-reu-chyeo ju-syeo-seo gam-sa-ham-ni-da.]

    • Meaning: "Thank you for always teaching me diligently." / 뜻: 항상 열심히 가르쳐 주셔서 감사합니다.

  • "수고하셨습니다. 오늘 식사는 맛있게 하셨나요?" [Su-go-ha-syeot-seum-ni-da. O-neul sik-sa-neun ma-sit-ge ha-syeot-na-yo?]

    • Meaning: "Good work. Did you enjoy your meal?" / 뜻: 수고하셨습니다. 오늘 식사는 맛있게 하셨나요?

  • "무거운 거 제가 들어드릴게요." [Mu-geo-un geo je-ga deu-reo-deu-ril-ge-yo.]

    • Meaning: "Let me carry that for you." / 뜻: 무거운 거 제가 들어드릴게요.

  • "오늘 점심 같이 드실래요?" [O-neul jeom-sim gat-i deu-sil-lae-yo?]

    • Meaning: "Would you like to have lunch together?" / 뜻: 오늘 점심 같이 드실래요?

  • "한국 문화에 대해 더 알고 싶습니다." [Han-guk mun-hwa-e dae-hae deo al-go sip-seum-ni-da.]

    • Meaning: "I want to learn more about Korean culture." / 뜻: 한국 문화에 대해 더 알고 싶습니다.

  • "이 음식 정말 맛있네요! 이름이 뭔가요?" [I eum-sik jeong-mal ma-sit-ne-yo! I-reum-i mwon-ga-yo?]

    • Meaning: "This food is delicious! What is it called?" / 뜻: 이 음식 정말 맛있네요! 이름이 뭔가요?

  • "주말에 보통 무엇을 하면서 보내세요?" [Ju-mal-e bo-tong mu-eot-eul ha-myeon-seo bo-nae-se-yo?]

    • Meaning: "What do you usually do on weekends?" / 뜻: 주말에 보통 무엇을 하면서 보내세요?

  • "저는 한국 드라마를 좋아합니다." [Jeo-neun Han-guk deu-ra-ma-reul jo-a-ham-ni-da.]

    • Meaning: "I like Korean dramas." / 뜻: 저는 한국 드라마를 좋아합니다.

  • "가족분들은 잘 지내시나요?" [Ga-jok-bun-deul-eun jal ji-nae-si-na-yo?]

    • Meaning: "Is your family doing well?" / 뜻: 가족분들은 잘 지내시나요?

  • "오늘 회식은 몇 시에 시작하나요?" [O-neul hoe-sik-eun myeot si-e si-jak-ha-na-yo?]

    • Meaning: "What time does the company dinner start?" / 뜻: 오늘 회식은 몇 시에 시작하나요?

  • "오해가 있었던 것 같습니다. 죄송합니다." [O-hae-ga is-seot-deon geot gat-seum-ni-da. Joe-song-ham-ni-da.]

    • Meaning: "It seems there was a misunderstanding. I apologize." / 뜻: 오해가 있었던 것 같습니다. 죄송합니다.

  • "앞으로 더 잘하겠습니다. 잘 부탁드립니다." [Ap-eu-ro deo jal-ha-get-seum-ni-da. Jal bu-tak-deu-rim-ni-da.]

    • Meaning: "I will do better. I look forward to working with you." / 뜻: 앞으로 더 잘하겠습니다. 잘 부탁드립니다.

  • "제 생각이 부족했습니다. 이해해 주셔서 감사합니다." [Je saeng-gak-i bu-jok-haet-seum-ni-da. I-hae-hae ju-syeo-seo gam-sa-ham-ni-da.]

    • Meaning: "I was not thoughtful. Thank you for understanding." / 뜻: 제 생각이 부족했습니다. 이해해 주셔서 감사합니다.

  • "서로 조금씩 맞춰가면 좋겠습니다." [Seo-ro jo-geum-ssik mat-chwo-ga-myeon jo-ket-seum-ni-da.]

    • Meaning: "I hope we can adjust to each other." / 뜻: 서로 조금씩 맞춰가면 좋겠습니다.

  • "우리 팀원들과 같이 일해서 즐겁습니다." [U-ri tim-won-deul-gwa gat-i il-hae-seo jeul-geop-seum-ni-da.]
